We all have dreams, don’t we? Why do so few actually make them happen? Why do some people have all the luck and some of us are just stuck in a life we didn’t ask for doing things we don’t like and don’t enjoy? Why do so many people long for a life they feel they would be happy in and would like to live but know they never will? Why is it so easy for some people yet so hard for others?

It can feel so unfair that some people seem to float through life with little effort and get everything, yet others struggle constantly and no matter how hard they work, their life never gets any better. It’s struggle, struggle, struggle day-in-day-out.

Is it that some of us are just unlucky, or were some of us were just meant for a small life or a life of suffering? Or is there more to it?

Most of everything in life comes down to, not what is happening in our physical world but what is happening in our minds and our hearts. What we think, feel and believe is shaping our world every day.  Some don’t want to believe that we have that power over our lives, that we have no control or say in how we live, we just live and things happen or they don’t. But we are each creating our lives with our thoughts, feeling and beliefs whether we believe it or not, it’s still happening, so here are three of the most common reasons people can’t seem to see their  dreams becoming their reality:

1.      You don’t believe they can possibly be your reality because it’s just a dream…

Let me ask you this? Why do you think your mind can imagine something in the first place? Your mind doesn’t just come up with random things, they are in your mind for a reason. They are meant to be part of your life. if you have a vision or dream of a life that is fulfilling and abundant is because that is the life you were meant to live. If you feel out of sorts in the life you are living it is probably a sign that you need to make changes and if you make the changes that align with your hearts desire you will not feel out or sorts again.

But you don’t believe it’s possible, so you won’t even try… what’s the point of trying if failure is inevitable right? Failure is 100% gonna happen if you have that belief and that attitude. That is what is holding you back, it’s not the dream that’s impossible, it’s the belief that the dream is out of reach that make it impossible to achieve.

You listen to other people who say you can’t do it, or that it can’t be done or those who mock others for trying and you know they will do the same to you. Napoleon Hill, who wrote one of the biggest selling self-help books of all time ‘Think and Grow Rich’ once said ‘The No. 1 reason people fail in life is because they listen to their friends, family, and neighbours.’ Stop listening to the naysayers even if they are ‘friends’ and family. They may have limiting beliefs, but you don’t have to. You listen to the voice inside that tells you that this is meant for you and you will make it happen.

2.      It’s Too Scary to Try. What if it fails, what if people laugh at me, what if I can’t do it, what it, what if, what if???

Yes, it’s scary! Of course it is. Everyone who has big dreams that have to get out of their comfort zone to achieve is scared. The difference between those who do and those who don’t is that one digs deep and finds the courage to do it anyway despite the fear. They don’t let the fear stop them or hold them back.

And if you don’t think you have the courage, just look back to when you was just a baby who learned how to crawl, then see the determination on your face as you summoned up the courage to pull yourself up against the chair or the coffee table and stood for the first time, then there was that time that you let go of the furniture and walked across the room for the very first time! What would your life have been like if little baby version of you had not have found the courage to let go of the furniture and take that very first step? That courage is still there; it is still inside of you, waiting for you to take the next courageous step.

And when it comes to people laughing at you for even daring to try, I always go back to Brene Brown when she said – “If you are not in the arena getting your ass kicked, on occasion, I am not interested in or open to your feedback.”   Anyone who is in the arena, also going after their dreams will encourage you, support you, help you, boost you, inspire you, help motivate you. Those who are sitting on the sidelines laughing and jeering are the ones who are too afraid, too stuck, too limited in their belief, hoping that you won’t succeed to make them feel better about their own lives and the things they are lacking in life. Pay no attention to them, and if they are your so called ‘friends’, get better friends.

And as for ‘what if I can’t do it… You may feel like you can’t do it because you don’t have the skill yet, but skills can be learned, knowledge can be learned. You are an intelligent person, who has the skill and knowledge to dream a dream that you desire, which means you have the capacity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to create that dream in reality. No matter what it is, there is a way, and if you stop focusing on the fear, the obstacles, other people’s opinions, and focus on the goal, the dream, the life you will lead when you have made it happen you will find the way forward.

3.      You aren’t the version of you that you want to be or the version of you who is ready to live the life you dream of…

As you progress toward your dream, you will learn things you don’t know yet, you will gain new skills, new knowledge, you will form new opinions, find new coping mechanisms, new values, new ideas, new perspectives, have new standards, new attitudes, new beliefs, new understandings, discover new methods, and above all you will have a new mindset, and along the way you will lose old values, old opinions, old limiting beliefs, old ideas, old beliefs, old coping mechanisms, old perspectives, old opinions, old understandings, old methods etc.

You won’t be the version of you that you are now because you will have gradually shed this version of you with each moment of growth you have on the journey to becoming who you really are, underneath all the things you have been told and taught. The real version of you, the one that has the vision of this wonderful life you are supposed to lead, is buried under all the weight of other people’s opinions and all of societies so called ‘Norms and Values’ that don’t often align with who we really are or what we want and expect out of life. You will get to know this real version of you as you go along your journey and by the time you reach the goal you will have morphed into the person you were born to be and from there… well, who knows what else is possible?
