Three Daily Habits that will Absolutely Change Your Life!

If you are wanting to lower your stress levels, create a calmer existence and live a more interesting or adventurous life you don’t need to make huge radicle changes if that seems too overwhelming, just add these three small habits to your day and your life will begin to bloom.
These three things are so simple yet highly effective. They each focus on a separate aspect of our life that we often neglect when we get busy and our days are hectic and demanding.
Each of these serve a valuable purpose:
1. Recharging and restoring us back to ourselves
Running around doing this and that for everyone else, making sure this is done and that is sorted drains us, we must make time to recharge and restore so we have even more to give to ourselves and to others.
2. Lightening our load
The heavy load we carry everyday tends to get bigger and bigger, with more things on our to-do list and not so much on our already-done list, this also serves as a drain on our energy.
3. Personal growth
This is what keeps life interesting, this is what keeps us from falling into a rut and feeling stagnant. Doing the same things everyday makes life easier as we can pretty much do it unconsciously, no deep thought involved, no real effort either. It also mean that there are no new experiences, no fresh perspective, no sense of achievement or wonderment.
It sounds like a lot to fit into your daily habits but I doesn’t have to be.
If you want to recharge, lighten your load and grow as a person there are three simple steps you can tale each day that will make it possible, and it doesn’t’ have to take long at all, in fact just a few moments each will suffice at first, although the recharge one is better if you can spare at least 10 minutes.
Okay so here goes… add these three simple things to your day:
1. Do something you WANT to do.
Doing something just because it brings you joy is the ultimate simple self-care. You have things you love to do that cost nothing or very little, like a walk on the beach, or the park, maybe people watching over a latte, journalling by the river, taking the dog for a stroll, dancing around the living room, a warm bubble bath, a foot soak, a walk through the woods, etc. what every simple thing brings you joy, make just 10 minutes a day for it and restore your mind and invigorate your body.
2. Do something you HAVE to do.
This is the one we tend to consciously put off. Most of us have a ‘too hard basket’ that we throw the things we find too hard to do right now in. we think that because we will get around to it eventually we are not worrying about it, but it is ‘mental clutter’ it is taking up space and causing anxiousness (even if you are not consciously thinking about it). Whether it’s making that phone call, answering that email, applying for that job, losing the weight that is making you miserable, reading and responding to that message, fixing the shelf, etc. anything that is on your to-do list and you keep putting off is now in your ‘too hard basket’. Take out one thing a day and DO IT! Lighten your mental load.
3. Do something you have never done before.
Our comfort zones are great at keeping us safe from unknown entities, but they also keep us for experiencing new things and trying new ideas. You may think it is impossible to do something new every day, but it doesn’t have to be monumental, I’m not asking you to bungee jump one day and sky dive the next. No, it can be something as simple as try a new filling in your sandwich, order a mocha instead of a latte, park in a different area of the car park, sit on the sofa and not the armchair when you are watching tv, wear something from the back of your wardrobe that barely gets to see the light of day normally, sit on a different chair at your dining table, order a shiraz instead of a merlot or a chardonnay instead of a pinot grigio, go to a different shopping centre or supermarket, take a different route to work, try a different cereal, have scrambled eggs instead of fried, try brown sauce instead of ketchup, try a different brand of shampoo or shower gel, try sparking water… there are a million different ways to try something different and I’m only suggesting you do one a day (try more if you want to, there is no limit!).
Every time you do something new you grow in so may different ways. You learn more thing about yourself, your likes and dislikes, you discover things you wish you’d been doing for years, you grow in confidence and experience, you grow in courage and skills, you grow in your perspective, seeing things from other viewpoints. Quite simply, if you do even just one new thing a day you will not be the same person you are now in even just a few days/weeks. And the great things about doing something new is that it gains in momentum, the more new things you experience, the more new things you want to experience, there will be no stopping you!

These three simple things will change your life if you implement them every day, your load will be lighter, your energy restored and your passion for life will be renewed.
