Did you know that having a positive attitude can do wonders for your overall well-being? It's true! Not only does it boost your mental health, but it can also improve your physical well-being.
I have never met anyone who wants more stress, more pressure, more worry, more tension, more trauma or more complaining in their lives. Yet the more attention we give to these things the more we seem to get them. And the more we get them the more attention we pay them. So how do we stop this vicious circle we may find ourselves in?
The day you have is influenced by your attitude, if you want a positive day, you must have a positive attitude. – Unknown
Starting with baby-steps we can turn this vicious circle into a Victorious Circle of calmness, relaxation, productivity, creativeness, fun, and enjoyment. And it all starts with positive thinking.
We’ve all heard the old saying ‘we reap what we sow’ but how often do any of us really pay attention to what we are sowing?
Everything you put out there, including your words, your posture, the way you present yourself, the attitude you display, and the thoughts you think are all impacting the experiences you are having, the people you meet, the conversations you have. Bottom line – what you put into the world you get back.
If you think that you are being positive, but keep having bad days, listen to the words you are using, pay attention to the thoughts you are having, straighten up your posture, look at the clothes you are wearing (if they don’t make you feel good, then they are not helping with your mood and attitude) and you’ll discover the attitude you are putting out into the world.
Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.
Remember back to the best day you ever had – how did you feel? Did the day just keep getting better and better?
Many years ago I had decided to take my children to London for the day. I didn’t have a plan of where exactly we would go but I just knew we needed a good day out. We got on the train and arrived in London. We walked around, with no plan and no route to follow, the kids both loving seeing all the sights. We arrived at Horse guards parade, just as they were changing the guard, we walked past Big Ben just as it started chiming, we stood at the gates of downing street, started chatting to the policemen on duty, who took us through so the children could stand in front of no. 10 and have their photo taken, the police officer even took off his hat and gave it to my son to wear for the photo (he cried and didn’t want to wear it, but still, it was a nice gesture) the day continued on a serendipitous path. Every little thing that happened made us even happier and so grateful for all these experiences opening up right in front of us. Until we all went home feeling like the whole day had been created for us and us alone.
Making overnight changes to your entire attitude is a big ask. Small changes on a daily basis may seem like they won’t make much difference, but over time (not that long) you will see the changes, in yourself, in your daily activity, in your conversations, your productivity, your ability to relax and enjoy life again.
Start adding a little positivity in your life and see it come back to you again and again.
