  • 30 Days of Gratitude Challenge for Your Best Life Ever!!

I love Thanksgiving. This year it got me thinking about gratitude and how it is something we should all be feeling everyday. We need to have the positive habit of feeling gratitude. So please join me on a 30 day journey of making gratitude part of my day, every day. Most of us have heard that feeling gratitude is good for our well-being but did you know that people who write a daily gratitude list can see a drop of up to 28% in their levels of the stress hormone - cortisol. Writing a list is great but if you think that you can scribble down a few words and it magically lift your spirits you may be disappointed, this is something you have to do very mindfully. You need to be completely present as you write the list, you need to not only write the words but feel the feeling of gratitude as the words unfold on the page. When you combine the written words with the emotion, the feeling you get when you are so happy and grateful for something in your life, that’s when the magic happens! You will be lifted into a happier place, and if you let your mind wander back to that feeling during your day, nothing can bring you down. So, here’s my challenge to you… Firstly – grab yourself a note-book – personally, I bought myself a little fancy number for $4 For 30 days (it takes doing something new 28 times to make it become a habit, so we’ve got a couple of extras for good measure :) I ask you join me and do the following: 1. Before you get out of bed in the morning, take a moment to appreciate your comfy bed, your warm duvet and soft billowy pillows that made you nights sleep so comfortable. Notice and acknowledge how well rested and refreshed you feel after such a good night’s sleep. (Even if it wasn’t the best night’s sleep, focus on what rest you did get). Now you have that happy-gratitude feeling running through you, write it down in your notebook. Write about what you are grateful for, why you are grateful for it and how you feel right now. It can just be a couple of sentences, or if you feel inspired by what you are feeling and want to go into more detail, that’s good too. 2. At the end of your working day, when you get in the car to leave, on the train on the ride home, when you pull up on the driveway or when you get home. Think about your day – and find at least one thing you are grateful for during your working day – if you can, find three. It maybe a colleague said or did something nice, or maybe an opportunity came your way, maybe you completed a difficult task or learned something new – or maybe you are just grateful for having a job that provides you with the money to take care of your family. Try to be as specific as you can. Now you have that happy-gratitude feeling running through you, write it down in your notebook. Write about what you are grateful for, why you are grateful for it and how you feel right now. Again, it can just be a couple of sentences, but if you feel inspired by what you are feeling and want to go into more detail, go with it, and let the words flow. 3. At the end of your day – just before you are ready to go to sleep, what else are you grateful for, how was your evening? What have you got to feel grateful for tonight? Think about them, feel about them, write about them. As you lay down in your comfy bed, slowly drifting off into a calm and restful slumber think about your list and how much you have to feel grateful for. You are about to have one on your best night’s sleep ever! Do this routine for 30 days. Before you say that you don’t have the time to do this, it only takes a few minutes three times a day. If you want to make a difference in your life and get yourself feeling happier and be able to see more positives in your life you will make the time. You have the same amount of time in your day as Elon Musk, as Bill Gates, as Adele, and as every other successful, happy and influential person that has walked this earth, so do I, so neither one of us has any excuse, it’s all about priorities. So please join me on this gratitude habit making challenge. Starting today! Let’s go! I would love to hear your feed back on this challenge via Comment, DM or Email. • 3 Daily Habits That Will Totally Change Your Life!

This is a little daily challenge I set myself a while ago after realising my self-care was not what it should be. Self-care is not just a bit of pampering but getting the best out of yourself, adding the good stuff and deleting the negative. A good self-care routine will help you get to be the best version of you. These three things work on different areas of self-care and self-improvement and add a bit a fun to the process. 1. Do one thing you love to do. By doing something you love to do you are making sure your day has some personal joy and some self-care. It could be sitting in the park by the lake, a stroll on the beach, a bubble bath, a coffee from your favourite coffee shop, curling up with a good book, just ask yourself what you really want to do and do it. It doesn’t matter what you choose, whether big or small, just as long as it is something that is just for you. Main benefits – Taking just a few minutes for yourself is telling yourself you are worthy of the good things in life. Doing something you love to do will help you to be in the moment, which will calm both the body and the mind. What ever you choose to do, just make sure it’s something that makes you feel good and makes you smile. 2. Do one thing you have to do. Get one thing out of your ‘too hard basket’ something you have been putting off and do it. It maybe a phone call you need to make or an email you need to send, a bill you need to pay, a chore you’ve been putting off. What ever it is, procrastinating isn’t going to make it go away or make it easier to deal with. Rip off the band-aid and just get it done. Yes, you may not feel good before and maybe even during getting it done, but once it’s done, it’s done. that’s one less thing causing you stress and anxiety. Main benefits – we are all guilty at some time of having a ‘too hard basket’ but everything we put in there is adding to our stress, maybe not consciously but the fact it’s sitting there waiting to be dealt with means it will keep popping it’s head up to remind us we need to do it, and each time it does it becomes harder and harder to approach. Pulling out just one a day will lighten the load of the basket without overwhelming you. 3. Do one thing you have never done before. That’s right, get out of your comfort zone. Now before you say that you can’t do one new thing every day, it doesn’t have to be big – I’m not suggesting you go bungee jumping or skydiving each day, just one small difference each day. Try parking in a different part of the work car park (you probably haven’t noticed but most of us tend to park in the same few spaces or area of any carpark we go to regularly). Try a different filling in your sandwich, order a cappuccino instead of a latte, drive or walk a different route, shop in a different supermarket, sit in a different seat when watching tv, buy a different shampoo… it doesn’t matter what it is or how small it is, just try one new thing. Main benefits – when you do what you have always done, you don’t have to consciously think about it, (which is why it comes so easily) your unconscious mind takes over and you work on auto-pilot. Doing something you have never done before (or not done for a long time) gets your conscious mind involved. Doing something new also has a positive effect on our self-confidence, the more new things you do the more new things you feel you can do, making you unstoppable!!! What new thing are you going to do today? Pin this to save for later, print it off and put it where you can see it every day to remind you to do all three things and see the difference it makes. • Try Adopting an Attitude of Gratitude and see the Difference It Can Make in Your Life

Having an attitude of gratitude changes the way you look at things, changes the way you feel about things and automatically makes you feel better about the things around you and the life you are living. If you feel good about life you are putting up no resistance. Most of us feel we have to have resistance to life because if we don’t have our guard up to block out negativity life may throw us even more crap. When in truth the opposite is true. The more resistance we put up the more crap life throws at us trying to knock it down. Let go of the resistance and be grateful for what you have and you will get more things to be grateful for. Stop complaining that this happened or that happened, it happened for a reason. If you can’t see the reason, look for it, there’s a lesson in there somewhere. It may have been to teach you resilience, courage, to get out of your comfort zone etc. there is a lesson to learn. All negative experiences are life’s teachers. Learn the lesson and move on. If you don’t learn the lesson, life will find another way of teaching you – bringing another negative experience into your life. Take all positives from what ever happened, be grateful for the lesson, for the experience. We all have way more than we think to be grateful for. Here's a tip -to get your attitude of gratitude started: Before you go to bed at night write down and say out loud 5 things about your day that you are grateful for. The great thing about doing this is that it has not one but two major effects on you. 1. You look for the positives in the day and find them, shifting your outlook from negative to positive. 2. If you go to sleep thinking of good things you are more likely to get a better night’s sleep. If you are still not convinced that being grateful for everything in your life is a good thing – ask yourself this: what have I got to lose by trying it? Being grateful cannot bring anything bad into your life only good. Here are 10 of my favourite quotes to back me up on this: 1. “Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson 2. “Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happen to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” – Brian Tracy 3. “Don't let the sun go down without saying thank you to someone, and without admitting to yourself that absolutely no one gets this far alone.” – Stephen King 4. “Gratitude is a antidote to negative emotions, a neutraliser of envy, hostility, worry, and irritation. It is savouring, it is not taking things for granted, it is present orientated.” - Sonja Lyubomirsky 5. “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” – William Arthur Ward 6. “Gratitude is one of the sweetest shortcuts to finding peace of mind and happiness inside. No matter what is going on outside of us, there is always something to be grateful for.” - Barry Neil Kaufman 7. “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity… it turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” - Melody Beattie 8. “It is not happy people that are thankful. It is thankful people that are happy.” – Unknown 9. “Today be thankful and think how rich you are. Your family is priceless, your time is gold, and your health is wealth.” – Zig Ziglar 10. “You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.” - Sarah ban Breathnach And one final last quote to take with you into your day ahead... Be thankful for everything that happens in life; it's all an experience. - Roy T. • Two Simple Ways to Remember to Say Your Positive Affirmations Every Day

Finding time to say your positive affirmations can be tricky, remembering to find the time and say them regularly can be even harder. Until you get into the habit of saying them as part of your daily routine it can feel like work, it’s all too hard and you end up not doing them at all. I found myself in the same situation when I first started using affirmations and wanted a way to incorporate them into what I was already doing, then it hit me, I had a ‘light bulb’ moment! I was having to change my password on my computer at work one day when I saw a poster over the other side of the room that said I Can Do it and I suddenly thought… ‘Passwords would be great for my affirmations’. We all use them all the time, I can have to use it up to ten times a day when my screen locks. I changed it at that moment to ‘Icandoit1’ As I had to change my password on a regular basis at work, after that I used other affirmations or sometimes just a positive, uplifting word adding a number or an exclamation mark at the end. Whatever it is you need to affirm to yourself or a word that makes you smile (Fantabulous and Marvellous always make me smile) can be a turned into a password, for your computer, laptop, phone, tablet or any other device you use. Ideas for positive affirmations/words to use as passwords. · ILoveLife1 · LifeisGood! · TodayisGreat1 · Happiness1 · Marvellous1 · Fantabulous2 · Icandoit1 · Sunshine3 · Flowers1 · IamGrateful1 · Thankyou2 · Wonderful1 · IamEmpowered2 · IamSafe2 · Smilemore1 · LifeisFun2 · Istaycalm2 · AlwaysHappy2 · IcanandIwill1 · Letsdothis2 · Keepgoing3 · Iamstrong1 · Iloveme1 · Lifeisamazing1 · Delightful1 · Laughter · Sensational1 · Organised2 · IamHealthy1 · IamWealthy2 · IamBrave2 · Opportunity1 · Happyday! · IamFabulous2 · Sparkle1 · ActuallyICan2 · LookingGood1 · SlenderBrenda1 Feel free to pick any off my list or maybe you already have some affirmations you could use. A second way to remind yourself of your positive affirmations is also simple and quick to do and you’ll see it every day as a prompt. Again, it goes back to the fact we are all reliant on our technology, most of us have smart phones, laptops and/or computers, tablets etc. and we use them every day. We can be looking at them ten times a day or more… Find an positive affirmation that resonates with you and save it to your device, then set it as your wallpaper/background/screen saver - here's a few for you to choose from: Today I focus on what makes me feel good. Today I do at least one thing that makes my heart happy. I go through my day today radiating positive energy. Whatever it is I want to achieve today, I CAN do it. Today I feel gratitude for all the good in my life. Today is going to be a really, really good day. I see the positive in every situation today. I wake up every morning ready for a new day of exciting possibilities. Today I choose to think positive thoughts. Today I choose not to take on other peoples negativity. Today I focus on what makes me feel good. • Why It Seems Everyone Else Has It All Together While You Feel You’re Just About Holding It Together

Do you ever look at other people and feel that they are doing so much better than you? So, just why does everyone else seem to have it all together while you feel you’re just about holding it together? Why do other people seem to know what they are doing in life, and you feel clueless half the time? The problem is, it’s an unfair comparison... ‘The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.’... you can only see the surface of other people’s lives, and you’re comparing it to the behind the scenes of yours. 'The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else's highlight reel.' - Steven Furtick If you saw, I mean really saw what is going on behind the scenes in other people’s lives’ you wouldn’t be so hard on yourself. I quote Regina Brett when I say “If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.” If you could see below the surface of almost anyone else’s life you would see that they are no different from you, the problems may be different, the issues they face may be different too, but they are still there in everybody’s life. And just like you they are just muddling through making the best decisions they can in the circumstances they are in. The lady you passed in the street that looked so sophisticated in her beautifully put together outfit, spent three hours trying on every outfit she has and feels not good enough in everything she does. The colleague who was laughing and joking with everyone at work today, was doing everything she can to hide the fact her heart was breaking as her partner has just run off with her best friend. The man that happily helped the young mum with her shopping bags and pram at the shops had only stopped to pick up some flowers for his mum who lives in a care home because. He has visited every week and watched her slowly deteriorate with Alzheimer’s and probably won’t even know who he is. It's bad enough that we compare ourselves to the people we see in the street or have a brief encounter with but then there is the social media people and influences that we compare our lives to. The ones that look like models that have just stepped off the cover of Vogue, those that seem to spend their lives traveling from great location to great location and never seem to have an off day, or those that have the perfect Pinterest homes, or even those that bang on about being positive all the time (a-hem is that me I’m referring to?) it’s so easy to look at or read what these people have to say and assume that they have it all figured out. The simple truth is none of us know what we are doing, we are all just muddling through trying to make the best decisions we can at any given time. We all have doubts and fears about whether we are doing the right thing. We all have insecurities that we are trying to overcome. We all think that everyone else’s life looks so much better than ours. Stop comparing yourself with anyone else. Their journey is theirs and yours is your own. What-ever path you are on, know that you are on it for a reason. And if you want to be on a different path, make it happen. Congratulate yourself when you get over one of life’s hurdles, celebrate all of your achievements no matter how big or small they may seem. Remind yourself that you are better than you think you are and get out there and be the best version of you that you can be. And at some point, I can pretty much guarantee that someone has looked at you and thought – they look like they have life sussed, or I wish my life was as together as theirs. • Why You Don’t Have to be Happy all the Time to Be a Positive Thinker

There are a few misconceptions about positive thinking and one of them is that you have to put on a happy face despite anything that is going on in your life and pretend that everything is okay. For anyone who is unsure of the difference between putting on a happy face and being a positive thinker, I am going to do my best to explain it so you to can enjoy the benefits of becoming a Positive Thinker. First of all 1. Positive thinking is a mind-set not an emotion 2. Happiness is an emotion not a mind-set I believe the misconception stems from the fact that those that adopt a positive mind-set are generally happier in themselves. But they still have problems to deal with, they still have lessons to learn, they still have bad things happen to them. When these things rear their ugly head to a positive thinker, they still feel sad, devastated, shocked, upset, angry, frustrated, annoyed, mad, distressed, overwhelmed, disappointed and heaven forbid… unhappy. The power of the positive mind-set then kicks in and they soon start to find solutions, answers to the problem, and/or ways of dealing or coping with the situation. You see they still have ‘negative’ emotions; they just don’t set up camp with them. They let them have their moment, they scream, shout, cry or whatever they need to do at the time, then they look at what they can do to help the situation and they stay focused on the best possible outcome. Most Positive Thinkers understand that they are going through whatever it is they are going through for a reason. (I have a candle in my house that states – I know everything happens for a reason, but what the actual ****! It can get that way sometimes, even for a positive thinker.) On the other side of the coin, those that have to be ‘upbeat’ and ‘fun’ all the time can be mistaken for being positive people. I used to work with a woman who would dance around the office and act silly to get laughs, yet every word she uttered was negative. If she wasn’t complaining, she was snappy or stressy with everyone. Another person I knew was always life and soul of the party, but when you got to know her you could see that her self-esteem was so low she was afraid of letting anyone see the real her, and by being the life and soul people seemed to like her, whist she looked happy on the outside, she was far from happy on the inside. My point with these stories is that people who seem happy are not always positive thinkers and positive thinkers aren’t always happy. When people put on a happy face and pretend everything is okay they are doing so much damage to themselves, they are suppressing their true emotions and that – unfortunately leads to depression, anxiety and even physical illness. It is not a good idea in any way, shape or form. And I say this, not just because it’s what I believe, but because that’s what I know to be true for me too. I have been on both sides. I have been the one to ‘put on a happy face’ and live a life of pretense, if I’m honest I have spent most of my life doing that, and it’s not a place I ever wish to visit again. Learning to train my mind to think positively was not an over night thing, it has taken time, and patience with myself. The benefits on the other hand have been exceptional. I have never felt so calm, I have never felt so relaxed, I have never felt so happy as I have since I began my Positive Thinking Journey. I highly recommend it! Positive thinking is changing the way you think about things, changing the way you look at things, changing the way you react to things, changing how you handle things, changing your outlook on life. It won’t stop the bad things from happening, but they will happen less and you will overcome them quicker, leaving you more time to enjoy life. So how do you start to become a positive thinker? Well, i'm going to suggest that a good start would be by reading my book! • 3 Harry Potter Inspired Self-Discovery Questions

The Harry Potter stories have a myriad of positive thinking connotations with in them, which I have written about previously, see Harry Potter and The Positive Thinker Part 1, Harry Potter and The Positive Thinker Part 2, but they also raise some very interesting self-discovery questions. I have chosen three for you to try, see what you discover... Self-awareness is one of the greatest tools we can have, for how do we know what to improve and what goals to set ourselves if we don’t really know what the problems are and what we really want? Try these three Harry Potter inspired self-discovery questions and see what you learn about who you are and what you want in life. Your answers may surprise you. For those of you not as familiar with the Harry Potter books and/or movies I have reworded the questions underneath so everyone can benefit from them. 1. If you were faced with a Boggart, what would it turn into? (In other words, what is your greatest fear?) 2. If you had a Patronus, who would you need to use it against? (who are the negative people in your life sucking your positive energy?) 3. What would you do if you had a bottle of Professor Slughorn’s ‘Liquid Luck’? (it only lasts for 24 hours but the effects could last a life time, what would you do if you couldn’t fail?) So, what now? Now you get to use what you have just discovered about yourself to make positive changes if you want to. 1. Your Boggart, what did it turn into, and how can you turn this fear on it’s head? 2. Your Patronus, firstly, what did it look like? And who did you put on the list that you would need to use it against? Was your list long? Ask your self if you added them to the list because of a one off incident or is it on going? Do you get a sinking feeling in your stomach at just the thought of spending time with them? Do you come away from being with them feeling drained? If it’s something that happens often you may need to rethink how much time you spend with these people or if you spend any time with them at all. If you can’t avoid them or limit the time then find your inner Patronus and refuse to take on their negativity, that’s who they are it’s not who you are. 3. ‘Liquid Luck’… so what did you decide to use your liquid luck on? What did you want to do so badly that you would use your one chance of not failing on? What’s stopping you from doing it anyway? Money? Knowledge? Opportunity? Work out what you need to do to start doing the thing you so desire to do. There is always a way, you just have to find it then start making steps in the right direction. • Positive Thinking vs Wishful Thinking

So, what’s the difference, they are the same aren’t they? Well, yes and no. They do have commonalities, so in some ways they are similar, but in other ways they are worlds apart. The things they have in common are that they are both wanting positive change of some sort, both want a better life, both want things to be different, things to be better than they currently are. So, what are the differences between Positive Thinking v’s Wishful Thinking, they start to show up when you look at what change you want… If you are wanting to win $20 million on the lottery, buy a big house and live the life of riley… or If you are dreaming of Brad Pitt bumping into you in the shopping centre and instantly falling in love with you and the two of you living happily ever after in his LA mansion… or If you are dreaming of some handsome stranger whisking you of your feet and in the process solving all of your problems… Thinking that any ONE thing is going to change your life is wishful thinking, a magic wand is not going to change your life (even Harry Potter needed to add positive thinking to get the best out of his wand) and if by some miracle it does, it will be temporary. How many lottery winners do you hear of that lose or spend all their money and end up back where they started? On the other hand, if you are wanting to: Yes, yes, I know the list is long and I could have easily of added more. Some will resonate with you, others may not, I’m sure you could add a lot of your own to the list too. The point is, that whatever it is you want more of in your life – love, friends, achievements, money, relaxation, fun, enjoyment, confidence etc. Positive thinking can help you to get more of. And whatever you want less of in your life – stress, problems, worry, fear, negative self-talk, clutter, anxiety, tension, etc. Positive thinking can help you to lessen. There is no magic wand – no one thing that is going to change your life for the better forever, in an instant. You have to put in the effort, you have to make the decision to make you life and yourself better. Is it easy? No. but it is simple. Does it seem to hard at times. Yes. But so is living a life you are not happy with. It’s your choice, your decision. If you decide to jump on your positive thinking journey, to start to live a positive life and change your thinking, there are lots of us out there to help you on your journey and lots of resources to get you started and to keep you going including my book Positive Thinking For Beginners or you the book that got me started ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay. 95 of the best Positive Thinking Quotes How to Start Your Day with a Great Attitude 15 positive Affirmations to Make Today a Good Day! • I Am… Two of the Most Powerful Words in The World.

I Am… two of the most powerful words in the world, for what you put after them, defines you. Think about that for a moment… How would you finish this sentence? I Am _______________________________________________________________ A failure Miserable Stuck in a job I hate Stupid Unlucky An idiot Fat Ugly Unattractive Unfit Useless Unfocused Unlovable Wishing for a better life Angry Bitter Frustrated Lonely Poor Unmotivated Or do you finish the statement with: Successful Happy Living life my way Happy with who I am Focused on what I want Working for what I want in life Lovable Healthy Happy in my own company Learning everyday Enjoying life Living my best life Smart Attractive Friendly Kind Rich Lucky Surrounded by love Happy with my body Upbeat Motivated Inspired Do any of those ring a bell with you? Did you pick more off the first list or last list? I know it’s hard not to criticise yourself and I’m sure we have all used things of the first list or something similar on more than one occasion. The problem is if we keep telling ourselves that’s what we are, that is what we become. And that’s the message we are giving out to everyone we meet; they see that we feel negative about ourselves and just go with it. Which creates a vicious circle, If you have never used any of the second list, and even if you do already, try using one of the positive words (it doesn’t have to be off of this list, use any positive word or statement you choose) once a day for the next week. If you can, look in the mirror as you do it. If not just say it out loud. Try doing it as you get ready in the morning to start you day off well. I love the power of saying them to myself in the mirror, but I also like to write out my positive statements and pin them up in the shower and say them out loud as I imagine myself washing away any negative thoughts I have. You can say it in the car on the way to work, you can say it as many times during the day as you want. Just say it, with as much meaning as you can and see the difference it makes to how you feel. To shift your mind set from thinking of yourself negatively to positively is going to take more than one statement a day for a week, but it’s a great place to start. As the positive statement starts to work its magic on you, you will begin to notice when you have a negative thought about yourself. Don’t beat yourself up about it – that’s counterproductive – Instead just recognise it and if you catch it in time, don’t finish it, then replace it with one of your positive ones. Most of the big changes we have to make to get us where we want to be, including mind set matters are not achievable overnight. Small, baby-steps, will still get you there. So be patient and keep working at it until every time you start a sentence with I Am... you finish it with such a positive statement that you don’t have to think about it, hesitate over it or doubt it!
