“No one told you life was gonna be this wayyyy 👏👏👏 so says the theme tune to the popular 90’s sitcom ‘Friends’ But they didn’t tell you it doesn’t have to be either. No one told you that you can change it, well they never told me.

But what if it doesn’t have to be this way? What if we do have a choice? What if we can make changes and life a better life?

Positive thinking is a concept I stumbled upon many years ago when I was at a strange point in my life, to others and even to myself, to a certain degree, it looked as though my life was great, a new home, two great kids, lots of friends, a great social circle. Yet deep inside, I was desperately unhappy. (At this point, I was not fully aware – and therefore could not change the fact that I was being mentally and emotionally abused) I had become so accustomed to putting on a happy face that I had almost forgotten that it wasn’t real. All my life I had always been shot down if I ever complained, I had always been told I was ungrateful and selfish if I said I was unhappy, so the mask had become a part of me that I took everywhere. I wore it as well as I could, yes, it slipped every now and then, but by then people had become so accustomed to me covering up how I really feel, that again I was not taken seriously.

Occasionally, the pain inside would overwhelm me, and when I did reach out for help, doctors tried to ply me with antidepressants and often refused my pleas to speak to someone who could help me with therapy instead of drugs.

It was during one of these times I came across Positive Thinking “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne as a way of changing your life, then as a way of healing your life, “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay. As I read more and more about it, I realised that I had experienced its magic several times already (but I’ll save that for another time). This realisation just made me hungrier for more information.

I read every book I could find on the subject. I experimented with some of the concepts, I watched other people, I listened to those who spoke positively, I listened to others complain about their lives and made observations on the impact these attitudes and ways of thinking, talking and being were having on their lives.

I became very self-aware and started pulling myself up when I found myself thinking negative thoughts or heard myself saying negative words, slowly I felt things start to change, things in my life began to change for the better, I became stronger and more confident, enough to start making the big changes that would lead me out of my pain and into a life that I could enjoy.

I hadn’t noticed how physically tense my whole body was until I began to let go of all the negative things in my life, including many toxic relationships. I learned to relax, which, when you haven’t relaxed for as many years as I hadn’t, does not come easily. I had to learn how to and make a conscious effort to allow myself the time to do so.

If You Change Nothing, Nothing Will Change.

One of the biggest things that struck me is that far too many of us need to learn this, so many of us feel stuck in a life that does not make us happy, we feel we are ‘stuck with our lot’. So many people don’t know that they don’t have to live in pain and sadness, in jobs that they do not like, in homes they don’t enjoy, with people who don’t make them feel good or deliberately make them feel bad about themselves. They don’t know they DO have a choice. It does not discriminate either, educated people can find themselves stuck in jobs that make them dread Monday morning. Rich people can find themselves lost, without purpose. Seemingly attractive people can find themselves alone and feeling unloved. Just because someone looks from the outside as if they have it all sussed and their life is perfect, doesn’t mean that it is. Looks can be very deceiving.

We all have hopes and dreams and for some of us the road is tougher and longer, but the road is there, we just have to find our way to it. Getting rid of our limiting beliefs, stopping the negative self-talk and adopting a positive outlook are the first steps to making lasting changes.

I have become a firm believer that things come to you when you need them and when you are ready for them. They did for me, so if you are here reading this, then maybe you too are ready to make changes.

Don’t get disheartened when your life doesn’t change overnight. It’s not supposed to. Baby steps (and the occasional leap) will get you where you want to be, and the changes will be lasting.

The journey I have been on has not been an easy one, but it has been enlightening, revealing, character building and extremely educational. Eventually as I became better at it, it became exciting, inspirational and motivational, seeing the changes happen just made me more positive and wanting to tell others that they too can do it! Which has led me to where I am today. The more I saw the results of my new way of thinking the more it inspired me and motivated me to stay on this journey and not to give up and go back to the life I hated but I knew well.

Remember: Things that are lasting don’t come easy, things that come easy don’t last.

Positive thinking has the power to change your life into the life you have always wanted, by eliminating the negatives in your mind and replacing them with good thoughts you will see positive changes happening in every aspect of your life.

Be sure not to confuse Positive thinking with Wishful thinking, the two are very different.  Wishful thinking is that a lotto win will instantly change your life into everything you have ever wanted, Positive thinking is changing the way you look at things, the way you react to things and changing the way you think about things. By changing your outlook, you will see what you need to eliminate from your life, and you will finally see just how much is truly possible.  The only limitations we have are the ones in our minds.  Join our positive thinking community, see your true potential and get on the right track to the life you have always wanted.

Positive Thinking is not pretending that all is good in your life or in the world, or ignoring all the negative things that life throws our way, nor always being happy and positive. there will still be times when you need a good cry or to vent your anger or frustration. But with a positive mindset, you won't feel the need to set up camp there, you will find a solution or a way to move on from the negative situation you have found yourself in.

And it all starts with our thoughts. Our thoughts determine our behaviour, the language we use, what we talk about, how we react, how we respond, what we do, where we go, what we see, what we enjoy, what and who we spend time with, who and what we avoid, who we fall in love with, what we eat, what we drink and what we value in life.

If you don't like your life or some aspect of it, look at the way you think about it; it may surprise you.
